Green Rinjani Trekking

Want to hike Mt Rinjani in Indonesia, but don’t know how to choose among the plethora of trekking companies? Want to avoid the crowds and trek a route not everyone does? You’ve come to the right place. We chose Green Rinjani for a private hike away from the popular Sembalun Summit route and can highly recommend not only the route but the company as well.

Green Rinjani are the only option in my opinion.
1. The guides (Arel & Robi) are the best. Professional, super caring, kind and funny. We went as a family of 4 and the guides practically carried up my 5 y.o son and 3 y.o daughter most of the way up and back down.
2. We got to plant banyan trees along the way
3. The porters cooked the most tasty food for us on the 2 day trek as well as set up everything so we could enjoy the experience.
4. Arel also took awesome photos for us during the entire 2 days.

Alitopan was a perfect organization to do the trekking with. In my opinion, it is more than worth the three days, 2 nights! I wouldn't have wanted to miss the lake either! Beautiful! The only disadvantage: a lot of litter, as in many places in Indonesia, unfortunately

We did the 2 day 1 night trek to the crater rim in August 2023. We were very impressed with Green Rinjani’s team: reliable, friendly, and competent. Our guide picked up rubbish on the way down as advertised on the website Highly recommend.

My friends and I did the 3D 2N summit hike through Green Rinjani and would highly recommend their services to anyone interested in doing the hike. All the staff were friendly and accomodating to questions and requests.
Our guide (Padmi) was exceptional! Extremely supportive and a wonderful happy soul to be around as the hike proved to be a real challenge for us.
The porters were exceptional as well and were equally as supportive, friendly and charasmatic. Huge appreciation for what these guys do for us travellers!
A wonderful experience summiting for sunrise and seeing the diverse flora and fauna of Mt Rinjani and it's surrounding area. Thank you to everyone at Green Rinjani for an experience of a life time!

Didn't do a tour because our request via WhatsApp wasn't answered (even after several days). We then booked the tour through another provider, who responded to us within 30 minutes.

Green Rinjani provided guide and porter services during my climb up Mount Rinjani between 15 - 17 Sept 23. Arie was our guide and was a most patient, friendly and caring chap. The porters were supermen in flip flops and set up camp and prepared our food superbly.

I will give extra points to Green Rinjani for living up to their name as they helped to clear as much rubbish as they could from the rest points and campsites and brought the trash down (I think Rinjani's beauty has been somewhat tempered because of the rubbish situation).

10/10 will recommend.

Great service! We could not do the trekking due to an injury I got the night before. The staff was most helpful bringing me to a nurse and translating for me. We even got a partial refund. They helped in any way they could. If we ever get another chance to do this trekking, we will definitely book through Green Rinjani again

Had an incredible trek with green rinjani. The hotel we stayed at the night before served delicious food, was clean and had the most incredible view.

We were well taken care of from the beginning to end. Basri and our two porters were amazinggg preparing us delicious meals, coffee and tea everyday. Basri was so encouraging and patient.

We did the 3days 2 night trek and decided to summit on the first day without regret. The second night stay was beautiful on the crater and our guides had found us a nice quiet spot so we could rest well.

They were committed to packing up all the garbage. Our tents were comfy and they even lugged up chairs and tables for us! (We definitely would have declined this had we known to save the porters weight — wow they’re strong!)

Would 100% recommend. Some of the other people we were walking with had complained about not being fed enough, that was never an issue for us!

We booked the Summit Rinjani 2D/1N Deluxe Tour and can absolutely recommend it! Our guide Jheff was just perfect and took great care of us, explained the schedule in detail and gave us background information. Our two porters were also great, what they do is amazing!

The prices of Green Rinjani are slightly higher than other companies, but in my opinion it is definitely worth it. The equipment like tent, mattress and camping chairs were in great condition and compared to other companies it seemed better quality. The food was also of a higher quality and the portions were very large. On the way, everyone of us planted a tree and the team makes sure that no rubbish is left behind. On the way down, on the initiative of our guide Jheff, we collected rubbish together, which he then carried.

We strongly recommend that you bring thick clothing, hiking or trekking shoes, a headlight, hiking sticks and gloves. Headlight, hiking sticks and gloves can be borrowed from Green Rinjani.

For the hike, you should have a good level of fitness and not be afraid of heights. However, this should be clear if you want to climb such a high mountain. But due to the private guide, it is always possible to walk at your own pace.

We would book this tour with Green Rinjani again!

Climbing Mount Rinjani with Green Rinjani was such a great experience. Our 2 guides, Andhy and Jheff, were very experienced and able to tailor the 3D2N according to how we were doing.

So for 6 of us, we had 2 guides and 6 porters. The porters helped to carry our tents, food etc. The food during the 3N2N was great.

Really thankful for the guides and porters for taking such good care of us, and for pushing us to do our best! The views were so great, and the climb was so tough (we greatly underestimated how difficult the climb would be haha)

Rinjani offers breathtaking views that needs to be earned through its rugged terrain. Despite all the challenges and limitation, Green Rinjani team tried their best to ensure our comfort. From thick mattress to sleep on, fresh fruits daily, hot tea on top of the summit, to finding the most private and scenic location for our tent; They have made the already beautiful mountain an even better place to enjoy the nature.

We went up to the summit and almost decided to skip the lake and Torean trek, However Dhana, our guide, persuaded us to follow through and we did not regret our decision. But I have the be honest: the amount of walking was intense, the terrain was wild, and the weather is mercurial.

We did the 3D2N hike to the summit, hot springs, and crater rim.

Communication beforehand was a little unresponsive but from the moment we were picked up at the airport to the moment they dropped us back to our hotel it was 5 stars.

Our guide Ahril and our porters were incredible. They were very friendly and helpful, we always had a good amount of food and water and our campsites were always comfortable.

Many people say there is a lot of trash on the mountain, and this is true, but Green Rinjani and especially Ahril go to a lot of effort to clean up what they can.

Remember, the trash is from people like us who visit the mountain, so if you want to be responsible and Leave No Trace then do your due diligence. It matters who you choose to book with.

We were extremely happy with everything we got for what we paid.

Do yourself a favour and book with Green Rinjani and remember to tip your guide and porters. They do a lot of work to ensure that you can enjoy the mountain.

I can not say enough great things about Green Rinjani tours - I HIGHLY recommend this specific tour group. They provided an Experience than I will cherish my entire life! They picked us up from the harbor and provided clean, beautiful accommodations (with a delicious dinner!) the night before the trek. We started the hike at 7 am after a wonderful breakfast. Our guide (Aril) was very knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and was fun to spend time with! He was extremely patient and helped us through difficult parts of the path. The porters carried all our supplies and we had delicious meals every step of the way - including with a stunning view at the mountaintop! Our supplies were higher quality than other companies. Unfortunately it rained most of the night and our tent was warm and waterproof - with thick pads to sleep on. The company is very eco-friendly. Not only did we plant a tree on the way up the mountain, but the guide and porters all picked up trash on the way down, so that we truly left the mountain in better condition than we found it. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Everything was clean and efficient. They were quick to communicate prior to the trip and drove us to our next stop after the hike (after providing a much needed shower!). I can not recommend Green Rinjani highly enough. They definitely stood out from the other companies in terms of quality, concern for the environment and value for services provided. I can’t wait to go back and do the full summit trek next time!

My partner and I did the 3D2N trek with Green Rinjani and we had the best experience. From when we got picked up at the airport, everything was very efficient. Everything was included (the hotel stay the night before, all meals, and they even let us shower after the trek before we got driven to Mataram). We booked the standard package, but it felt like we got 5 star treatment, especially compared to the other trekkers we saw. Our guide Ahril communicated really clearly with us about plans for the day, and he took amazing photos and videos of us, which was a bonus! The food was also delicious and we got generous helpings of fruit with every meal & plenty of snacks at rest points.

Everyone involved in our experience went above and beyond to make our trek awesome. From our drivers, our 3 porters, and Ahril, everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable.

Green Rinjani also does great work to clean up the mountain. Ahril and our porters would pack out not only our trash, but also the litter from other groups, in accordance with the company’s mission to leave the mountain cleaner than they found it. If we come back to Lombok we will definitely be booking more tours with Green Rinjani:)

Spectacular scenery, guide: Fahmi and Porters; Dul, Awal and Dino carried out a safe hike. They went above beyond in their roles. The meals and breverages provided on the hike were plentiful.

Accomodation staff were also friendly and nice.
The driver on the way to Senaru was also very kind and a good, safe driver.

Litter found on the trail was collected. I am pleased to have went with Green Rinjani Hopefully, allocated tree given to each hiker grows well.

What an amazing experience!
We did the 2 days hike with Greenrinjani and it was incredible.
The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Our guide was John and thanks to him and the porters that hiked with us we will never forget this experience.

We stayed on the camp when everybody else left and while other guides left rubbish at the mountain, our team from GreenRinjani cleaned up rubbish from everybody else to keep the place as good and nice as posible.
Every single euro was worth the experience, it included all meals, pick up and drop off wherever you want in Lombok and we slept one night at an amazing room that belong to the company. The day before the hike they brought us to see two beautiful waterfalls.

Like many mention, The camping site up at the rim is very dirty, and yes green rinjani team is bringing their own garbage back down but that about it. I think that they could be "greener" by taking less plastic up, providing reusable raincoat to their staff, using reusable garbage bags, not bringing plastic bottles up there, proposing to pickup some trash up there to the other Trek company.

Went for a 3D2N trek with Green Rinjani in August. It was an incredibly challenging and tiring trek but our guide, Aril and our porters made it enjoyable and fun. Aril was a very professional guide and was constantly on the look out for our safety and well-being. He also took the initiative to take photos for us at various points along the trail. The porters were amazing carrying our supplies, setting up our campsite and cooking us a spread every meal. The tents and sleeping bags were well-insulated, and there were even mattresses and pillows for us to sleep on. The porters were also very mindful of the environment — they ensured that they brought all the trash with them and even picked up trash on the mountain. Overall, would highly recommend Green Rinjani if you are considering hiking Mt. Rinjani!

We booked the 3D2N Sembalun-Senaru trek with Green Rinjani and had a wonderful experience. From the onset, they were responsive to our queries and provided great customer service.

During the climb, our trekking team looked after us extremely well – our guide Aril was fun, patient and encouraging, while the porters whipped up delicious and well-balanced meals which gave us much-needed energy to power through the days.

I also love how the team picks up trash left behind by other groups and brings it down the mountain despite it being an additional load for them. Mount Rinjani is a beautiful place but the trash situation is of real concern. To quickly sum up: if you want to make a change on Mount Rinjani, be more sustainable when hiking and support a company that actually cares for the nature and mountain, with experienced guides, good food and planting a tree on the mountain: book your trek with Green Rinjani, we would never do it any different.

From the beginning to the end, we felt in perfect hands with the whole team. We got picked up by a driver from the Harbour in Bangsal and he drove us to the Green Rinjani office to get some drinks and fried banana. After they took us to the hotel almost next to green Rinjani office where we stayed one night. For dinner we had a wonderful curry, which was all included in the price.

To the trek: After receiving a briefing the night before, if what to pack and what we can expect, we started our 3D2N summit trek. With Aril we were in perfect hands. He has a lot of experience and was so kind and motivating. The landscape on mount Rinjani is so beautiful, but sadly many people leave their trash and it’s getting worse and worse. So we and especially the guide and the porter picked up everything they could to bring it back down. The porters cook breakfast, lunch and dinner on the mountain for you. It is the best Indonesian food we have had since arriving to Lombok and Bali. So after a long trek you can truly gain your strength again. The campsites are wonderful, so is the coziness of the tent, so you get some good night rest. The team really thinks of everything and are so helpful in any situation.

All in all, the hike to the summit is not for anyone who as never trekked before. You have to be fit and motivated to walk for long hours as it is very exhausting. But be prepared to be amazed by the nature and the friendliness of the whole Green Rinjani Team. We would always book again.

The tents, mats and sleeping bag were very comfortable, the was food good and varied so we felt that the deluxe pack was worth the money.
Accomodation in Senaru was good, transportation confortable and everyone was very friendly. They helped us set up transportation for the next leg of the trip.

Hiking on Mount rinjani was a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Dana and Green Rinjani trekking for making the experience so memorable. We had the best camping spots by far and Dana went to great lengths to make sure we had everything we needed and more. The food was plentiful and really good, we even had coffee and snacks at the summit. Everyone in our group managed to summit thanks to Dana and Dotti our guides, who were very experienced and knowledgeable.

Amazing hike with Ariel!

Did the 3D2N Sembalun-Senaru hike in a mixed group of 6, and had a lovely experience! The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and had good English, and the service and food were amazing (we were the only group with tables and chairs, and enjoyed plentiful food, lovely pineapples/other fruits, and hot/soft drinks at each meal!). The team even provided "room service" to our tents on the final night when it was raining! Also, the guides helped to pick up the trash on the mountain left by locals and other groups, working towards the preservation of the lovely mountain.

Please don't hesitate to spend that little bit more for an excellent mountain experience! (Please also DO NOT leave your trash on the mountain)

Very bad WhatsApp communication. They ignore requests. Maybe they don't bother with solo travelers, but not the best customer support.

We did the 2 days 1 night Rinjani hike to the Senaru crater rim. It was a great adventure. Our guide Dhana was the best, he was very kind and helpfull. The porters were very friendly and the food was delicious. It was easy to communicate via Whatsapp. We recommend to do this trip with Green rinjani.

One of the best mountain trekking services, they also have hotels with good service and fair prices.

We did the 2D1N tour to the Crater Rim with Green Rinjani Trekking.
Our guide DHANA and our two porters did an incredibly good job. We got perfect guidance (and motivation with chocolate and music) by our English speaking guide Dhana for the complete tour.
And hats off to our porters carrying the whole stuff to the top, reserving one of the best spots for our tent so that we had an amazing and breathtaking view on the vulcano, Mount Rinjani and the Crater lake.
All the guys must be professional cooks because the meals they created were so delishes, a lot of other groups were looking jealously on our table. They even carried a big bottle of Bintang for our dinner the whole way up. It's the small things making a reals difference, e.g. A small candle on our table for a romantic atmosphere No really they all did a great job and made this trip unforgettable.
And I was really impressed that they keep an eye on the environment (which is not usual in Indonesia), even collecting the trash of other groups who don't take care of. You don't need to pick up trash by yourself but when you see them doing this you want to help to keep this unique landscape as it should be.

Great experience with a well-equipped staff. Even though we could only do the 2 day hike - because of the earthquake in 2018 - it is an exhausting way up, but for the view definitely worth it.

The staff was very friendly and food was amazing and diverse. During the night it gets cold - tents and sleeping bags were super clean and warm.

In contrast to many other companies, green rinjani pays guides and porters fairly and bring down their waste and other trash people left on the mountain!

A friend and I booked the 3D2N Tour with Green Rinjani and are totally blown away by the organization, flexibility, professionality and friendliness of everybody involved.
We were picked up near Kuta at 4am at a pretty remote place. We feared that the driver might be delayed but he even arrived earlier as expected! We could have chosen to get picked up on the previous day and stay at the Green Rinjani Guesthouse for one night for the same price, but we had another accomodation already booked, so we chose the night pick up.
After the drive to Sembalun we started the hike up the mountain at 8am with 2 girls the guys from Green Rinjani picked for our group. They were paired with us according to our own fitness level and it couldn't have been a better fit.
The hike itself was very physically demanding as others have pointed out. It was possibly the most demanding trek I have ever done.
Luckily we hat our guide Fahmi who kept us going by encouraging us to go further when we were sore, feeding us small snacks ("petrol") and being an overall great guy with a good sense of humour and great english skills. Also the godlike porters who carried our tents and all the other stuff up and down the slopes and fed us great meals three times a day.
The equipment they provided us with was outstanding in quality and cleanliness and the the food was also more and better than we expected (fresh fruits for every meal for example).
The porters and Fahmi also collected all trash we produced and brought it back down and even cleaned our campsite and the trek of trash from previous campers who weren't as considerate.
All in all it was a once in a lifetime experience to climb Mount Rinjani and we could not have been happier to do it with Green Rinjani.

My son & his fiancé & I just finished this trek with Green Rinjani Trekking & it was amazing! Edy, our guide went above & beyond. I never could have made it without him. The porters, inclunding Awan, a new one were outstanding. Totally professional and true Supermen. I loved that we planted a tree and learned so much from Edy about the history & lore of the mountain. The meals were fantastic and although it’s a really challenging trek, these men made it a wonderful & memorable experience. First class operation!

I choose this agency due to reviews but after my experience I won’t choose again.
Food quality is perfect and also the tent is clean but there is no difference between this agency and the others one.
In fact, the second day when we were climbing to the crater (the hardest and difficult part) our guide tell us to go ahead.never more we’ll see him. We climb the volcano alone, without any support and when we arrive we don’t have any water to drink or something to eat.
In conclusion the quality is good but the other companies are also good quality and this one is a little expensive.

Phenomenal. From the moment we got off the plane until we left Lombok, Green Rinjani provided a great experience. They worry about the little things so you don't have to.

The logistics:
1) Rinjanj waiting outside airport once flight landed even though we had communicated incorrect time
2) got to base at 12am and staff were ready and served snacks
3) Accomodations the night before were beautiful.
4) Friend did not have jacket and easily rented
5) After trek completed, Rinjani was flexible in making special arrangements for us to rest, as well as booked fast boat to Gili T, so when we were dropped, immediately had boat.

Overall, Kana (sp?), the manager of the base, is super helpful and thorough. All cars we drove in were comfortable and clean.

The trek: 2d, 1n summit
1) Amazing food during the trek. The curries were especially great.
2) Katot, our guide, was super friendly and helpful.
3) Submitting was difficult but reasonable for a group in decent shape. The biggest thing is bring hiking books and stay mentally strong!

Only suggestion for improvement would be for guides to know a little more about the history of Rinjani and the 1257 volcano eruption as well as background on the environment. This would make the experience even better!
