A group called Tirta Sari performs every Friday. They seem to be a famous group that performs all over the world.
If you walk along the alley from Brithalen Royal Palace, you will arrive at Balelun Stage. The road in front of the stage is narrow, so it can get crowded during performances. Also, since it's far from the center of Ubud (although it's still within walking distance), and there don't seem to be many street lights, I thought it might be scary to walk around at night.
Next time, if I have a chance, I would like to book an overnight stay near here and go out to see it. I passed on viewing this time for the reasons mentioned above.
I went out to check out the location during the day, but as soon as I stepped inside to see the stage, a large dog started barking at me and chased me. Of course, the dog's owner came after him and stopped the dog.

The performance seemed nice but I couldn't really see it. The performers are often low to the ground and the seating is such that you could really only see the heads of the performers when they are standing. The performers were also often out of sync when there was supposed to be an emphasis on their synchronization. The brochure which explains the performance was so full of translation errors that I couldn't understand most of it.

I think if they practiced a little more, did something to improve the visibility, and had someone touch-up the brochure it'd be a great performance.

A highlight of our trip to Bali so far. So glad we made the 15-minute journey out of the centre of Ubud to support this community theatre dedicated to preserving traditional Balinese dance and music. We were privileged to have virtually a private showing - just our family, 2 other tourists and a few local kids sitting quietly at the back. Broken into 6 acts the performance gave us a great taste of different styles of dance and insight into Balinese storytelling encapsulating events from as far back as the 12th century. The dancers and musicians were extremely skilled and clearly committed to their practice. A really fun, engaging experience - we couldn’t believe 90 minutes had passed. It was easy to book seats via WhatsApp and pay at the door. Balerung Stage is tucked away behind the royal palace in Peliatan but the theatre sent us a map when we booked and our driver knew how to find it - definitely worth paying the extra 150k to get there and giving the commercial events in the centre of Ubud a miss!

It was a little hard to find, but it was worth the search. The stage was truly amazing and the dancers and musicians were incredibly professional.

As I took my seat, the lights dimmed and the first dance began. The dancers moved gracefully across the stage, their movements perfectly synchronized to the music. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the dance and the skill of the performers.

The second dance was even more impressive. The musicians played lively music on traditional instruments, and the dancers moved with energy and passion. It was clear that they had been performing this dance for many years, as they executed every step with precision.

The third dance was a slower, more contemplative piece. The dancers moved slowly and deliberately, telling a story through their movements. I was captivated by the emotion they conveyed and the beauty of the dance.

The fourth and final dance was a lively and energetic piece that had the entire audience clapping along. The dancers moved with such grace and skill, it was hard to believe they had been performing for more than five decades.

As the performance came to an end, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such a beautiful and traditional stage. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Ubud to make a stop at this amazing stage to experience the talent and artistry of the dancers and musicians.

Superb! As a local, I highly recommend you to go to this place. It was a total different experience from other commercial places. I really enjoyed watching them dance for 1.5 hour. They have their regulars on friday night 7.30 pm. Tickets are sold on the spot, but booking is essential to secure your seat.

If you are interested to learn Balinese dance, you can also directly ask for a private session.

Located in the heart of Ubud, this stage offers the audience serenity and privacy. It is an indoor stage and there aren't many audience so it feels like a personalized experience. Weather wouldn't be much of a trouble.

The dancers are amazing and the maestro/director himself, Anak Agung Gede Oka, would also join the line up.

The shows not staged for tourists but it is a family group led by Agungji and Oka that has been stage authentic ones for at least 13 generation.

I will go back again.

Very tucked away dance mandapam up a small backstreet behind and running parallel to Peliatan main road. Imaginative artistic architecture, many cocks in round cement cages *poor things. That's why I gave just 4 stars. Sunday mornings at 9 to 12 kids learning legong and other dances. Fantastic teacher. Super intimate indoor setting friday night dance performances about 100k rupiah per ticket. Pak Bagus (ANAK AGUNG GDE BAGUS MANDERA ERAWAN) furiously playing rebab in the orchestra is also an internationally acclaimed dancer and most colorful of Ubud's wizards.

Good performance but I don't understand the story. Not to sit at the front really a big no no. People blocking the performance, especially when you are a short person.
