What a gem of a place.
High end dining with exceptional service and delicious food an cocktails

The most beautiful restaurant in an amazing setting with even more amazing food and staff. We were sat with a direct view out on the rice field. I recommend arriving here just before sunset. We had the tasting menu and every single course was outstanding. The drinks were great too. And the whole team was just so welcoming and professional. This was my favourite restaurant in Ubud!

The chefs pairing was great. It was a big portion, so I wasn’t able to finish it, so if you get this, pace yourself. The cocktails were really good also

We ate at this restaurant for dinner and we had a wonderful moment.
The place is amazing, surrounded by the rice plantations.
The food is really fine, and the plates are copious.
The waiters are nice and take time to well explain the meals

This was a phenomenal experience. From the lit lanterns leading you magically on passed the lush green rice paddy to the gentle music and exquisite food. The staff were incredible and anticipated your needs exceptionally. As soon as you thought I need another drink or the next course, another one would appear as if by magic. We had the five course menu with the ocktail pairing and this was a very wise choice. The pairing were extremely complementary. The food was heavenly, a sensational explosion of well balances flavors on the tongue. The second course which was a fish dish was delicious and the dessert! Dessert was sensational. The expresso martini was the best I have ever tasted and was even better pIeed with the dessert. This was a truly magical night and is a must for anyone group or couple, coming to Ubud

Fantastic food and drinks in the middle of nature. Higher price level for Bali but well worth the visit. More of an experience and fine dining. Staff is great.

Great night, we went for an anniversary dinner, so we were looking for something nice and romantic. Cannot recommend highly enough. The concept is Indonesian tapas, but let the chef pick and James Tan will look after you with large tapas servings that will fill you with joy. The staff were so friendly and accommodating with special mention to Wayan and Charles (worlds best Mojito, yes better than the Rum Bar in Airlie Beach)

Couldn’t be more impressed with this little Ubud gem. Food and drinks are incredible, clean, tasty and clearly prepared with love.

The service and surrounding are also perfect, couldn’t have asked for a better environment to have a nice meal and enjoy the nature of Ubud.

I almost never write reviews. In fact, this might be the very first I write for a restaurant. The reason is simple. Eating at Sacred Rice was a magical experience and I want others to know about it. The service was impeccable, the view in nature was stunning and the food was some of the best I ever had (get the 5-course menu). The day after we went to Mozaic and paid twice as much for food we enjoyed less than at Sacred Rice. Yes, it's a bit tricky to find, but so worth it. We are planning to go back for Valentine's Day:)

It was so nice that we came twice! Exceptional service in an incredible atmosphere with delicious food.

Not impressed.
Only way I can describe our experience.
We went at night, was hard to find entrance, no signage, then a long walk not well lit, used mobile phone light to see.
You are walking a narrow path stepping across bamboo, concrete, bamboo concrete, through supposive rice paddy, probably not so bad in daylight.
You arrive at a open deck with roof, table & chairs set above a the small made up rice fields probably again may look better during daylight.
Now the important part, seated & handed menu's.
Basically a drink menu with description of a 5 course Share Chefs Choice meal that changes daily depending on chef, at back some other options that we could not work out what they were so went for the 5 course meal.
There was 4 of us
So ordered drinks 3 chose a cocktail (can't remember name) a real minty green drink that was I'm told was delicious, refreshing.
Next main meal.
Get 4 plates, some light some black & cutlery.
Well SHARE it was.
1st course,
TWO large plates with TWO battered Prawns, to SHARE one each.
2nd course.
Get new 4 plates, some light some black & new cutlery again.
This time Black Pepper Chicken, a small dollop on TWO large plates to SHARE, so cut in half & SHARE.
For three of us, the pepper was too hot.
3rd course.
Again get 4 new plates, some light some black & new cutlery.
This course another dollop, a Pork Dish a little larger but Ok, so cut in half & SHARE
It tasted good but was a little chewy & not large enough portions for me.
4th course.
Yet again get 4 new small plates, some light some dark & new cutlery.
This was the best course a Beef Dish, tasted devine but again a dollop on TWO large plates, cut in half, SHARE again.
Then if you got a dark plate it was hard to see what you were eating in the low light.
Don't get me wrong the food is top quality & tastes good it's this SHARE thing & low light.
5th course.
Hang on my wife & I need toilet break (will get back to that later).
Return to our friends just about to finish two champagne glasses of desserts & as they put ours down they realise two different ones & meant to SHARE, that SHARE, low light problem again.
Anyway how are you meant to share a dessert served in a champagne glass?

Now the other Problems

1. Drinks, having enjoyed their first drink so much we ordered a second round.
Only to be served something that was completely different colour & taste.
After notifying them they took them away (basically full untouched drinks) & we just had water, apologies all round TWICE.
They ran out of coconut milk?

2. We were CHARGED for those drinks &
we didn't realise until we were at our hotel going over bill.

3. Cost, total bill was for 4 of us $2,189,000IDR
Thats like AU$55 each & in Bali that's a lot for not what you could call a fantastic meal & evening.

4. Back to the Toilets, my wife & I go across to the seperate building as another man comes out & says that one not flushing.
So send my wife in to other toilet & I go in to not working one lift lid of system & no water, float stuck, release float & wait to flush previous occupants business. Next my wife say this one won't flush either, so finish my business & go next door do same there with float. Wash up & head back for desserts.

5. The SHARE Menu. Just didn't seem to work, would have been better to just have had a set Chef Choice Menu & seperate portions for each.

Now the Good Bits.

1. That first drink that they couldn't repeat was really special & refreshing.

2. El Chapo look alike, the main head waiter that night was a twin brother to the actor who played El Chapo in the Netflix series El Chapo. We even found a photo & all had fun especially the waiter.

3. The service that night was top notch, all staff brilliant even El Chapo. Feel sorry for the dishwashers for all those extra dish with each course.

Sorry we never took photos going in was to hard to find way let alone take photos.
We just never thought during meal to take photos as to busy working out how to divide food.
The only photo is while waiting for taxi going home, found this little guy on wall.

Delicious fresh Foods and fantastic cocktails selection with special twists!

The experience start way before you order the food

Incredible food and to date one of the best whisky sours I have ever had (thanks Charles) - we got the 5 course tasting menu with meat options and every course was amazing. In particular the chicken was super succulent and some of the fish courses were amazing too. Recommend the tasting menu option. It's nice to be told what's the best ;) - frozen dacquiri and the whisky sour come highly recommended from a cocktail perspective too. It's well worth splashing out for an indulgent meal in Ubud!

This place is a must for date night! Such a romantic little spot. Service was incredible. Lychee martini is on point and their calamari is the best calamari I have ever had. The chef knows what he’s doing because everything was yummy. Definitely recommend.

Good but not great. Many dishes needed more seasoning. Staff wonderfully attentive. Beautiful location.

Before you continue to read: those who look for a pizza or ‘international-no-identity-menu’: just do yourself a favour and skip this place.

We let us surprise by the chef’s menu and it was worth every penny.
A wonderful journey through the Indonesian kitchen with a clear genius touch of the chef. Surprising dishes, working towards a climax.

Next time we come, we hope to meet the modest artist and have a short talk about his creations and the experience he offers to his guests.
Expect to eat in an idyllic environment, to be served by a sincerely hospital staff and to enjoy some of the best signature cocktails in Bali.

The food is honnest and shows character, this place has a bright future, just don’t hesitate, leave the crowded Ubud center and enjoy a 5-star evening in this magical restaurant.
Last word: the desert was one of the best I ever ate in my entire life. It has no meaning for the average reader … but it surely has for me, will never forget it!

The food here was absolutely beautiful. We had the 5 course chef menu. Super catering for all your dietary requirements and great gluten free/vegan options. They are very small serves on this menu but after 5 you are more then satisfied. The table across ordering off the menu seemed to have bigger portions. The friendly staff made this an unforgettable experience. Thankyou for a great night

Went on 31/07/22 and had an amazing experience, the customer service was amazing and very informative.
The food was amazing, I definitely recommend the 5 course chef special.
You will not be disappointed.
