Blue Marlin Dive Gili Trawangan

I was able to do a dive with this center. Everything went very well, they take the time to explain to you and the time in the swimming pool allows you to gain confidence for the sea trip. Thank you for the professionalism and support.

We stopped to eat here 4 times during our stay in Gilli, the food was really good and the service was excellent.

I highly recommend the diving school! I did my advanced OWD there, Vivi was my instructor and she was amazing, very nice and professional at the same time. The whole staff is very helpful as well.

It was my first scuba dive and Blue Marlin team made sure they made it special. From the time i stepped into the dive suite till the time i made out of the ocean, everything was meticulously planned and 100% safe. Trainer Luke was so calm, humble and thought us the basics damn well. He stayed with me and gave personal attention the entire time during the dive. Anyone who wants to try scuba, please do it only in Gili T and please do it only with Blue Marlin dive team and trainer Luke.

First experience diving and total success with the choice of this diving center, the facilities and equipment are in perfect condition, they have highly experienced instructors who explain everything perfectly and answer any questions with great patience. In my case, I was lucky that my instructor was Spanish, Gonzalo, with more than 15 years of experience in diving, which made everything even easier.

Rooms were a bit run down, AC was on the fritz and there was a smell of sewage from one of the toilets.

Great staff, great food, great atmosphere.

Wouldn't go here for the pool though as it's usually in use by scuba divers

I have just completed my open water course with Blue Marlin and we have had the best few days! Our instructor Vivien was amazing and friendly, she really helped us to understand everything during our course. Everyone you spoke to was happy and smiling all the time, the bar and restaurant was fun and we also stayed in the hotel which was great too!

I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to do any Padi courses!

Food absolutely bland, no taste at all.
The fish and chips was soggy and not crunchy.
The laksa was litterally a bunch of shredded raw veggies boiled in coconut milk. Let’s not talk about the fact that they charge you 3% more in case you want to pay with credit card.
Typical trap for tourists.
Just walk a few meters more and enjoy the real Indonesian food in one of the little restaurants that belong to one of the lovely local people.

An amazing experience for our first time diving!
Could not recommend Krit enough - he was such a great instructor. I felt super comfortable and safe the entire time, from the practice in the pool to diving in the ocean. We loved it so much that we did a further 2 dives with him. It was truly incredible experience and we cannot wait to dive again. Thanks Krit for an amazing experience!

Just completed my Open Water Diving Course at Blue Marlin Gili Trawangan this weekend and absolutely worth it. I had almost zero diving experience and super clumsy in nature but Krit (my dive instructor) really helped me through the entire course. He was patient, clear, and attentive. The briefing and debriefing sessions were so organized - the pool sessions were extremely helpful. Of course, in practice in the open water - its very different but Krit really made sure that we apply and integrate all skills that we learned in the E-learning and pool sessions. I am so glad to tick one of the boxes in my bucketlist - and so happy to have chosen Blue Marlin Gili T to accomplish it.

Completed some tech diving, guided trips and also courses with Blue Marlin Gilli T, finding the blue marlin and the crew there really easy going, professional and have the ability to choose some of the best spots to dive amongst the Gillis.

If you wanna dive on Gili T this dive center is a solid choice to go with.

A dive center with a big offering from the very basic discover scuba up to advance tech courses.

The two dive boats are in Indonesian standard big, the equipment is modern and the diver center is very close to the beach which is handy.

There’s a lot of people working there so you have the chance to find a instructor you feel confident in.

Some small improvements could be made:

Free water at the dive center for divers (we got charged for the water)

No included lunch even if you dive all day and it’s very short time to eat something. They have a restaurant so it wouldn’t cost much.

Better information about dive sites with briefings before diving.

Me and my girlfriend were curious about diving. We walked in and were greeted by a super friendly staff and a guy named Grant who explained everything to us in great detail and found what was best for us, our open water, a 3 day course. (We seen grant everyday after and he always asked how we were and if we needed help, super friendly guy)
The next morning we showed up and met our instructor, MC! A caring person who wanted us to have fun, be safe and learn lots! MC was patient, knew what each individual person had to work on and helped us develop our skills!
I can’t stress enough how amazing he was!
We extended our trip 2 more days to do extra dives with him! This company is super professional, safe and wants everyone to have fun! They cater to everyone from first timers to people who want to be diver trainers! There is no other option like this one Gili T

I want to start off by saying I never thought in a millions years I would ever scuba dive. My boyfriend and I visited Gili T for what was supposed to be a 4 night trip, and we ended up staying 6 nights to accommodate the open water diver certifications, which we were more than happy to do.

When we arrived at Blue Marlin Dive, we were greeted by Grant who asked us if we were going on a discovery and we said we were interested in the open water diver certification. He was knowledgeable and polite when explaining everything to us, and then set us up with all the materials so we could return the next day and get started.

The next day we showed up and we were matched with our instructor, MC, and we went over all the knowledge reviews and got set up to go in the pool with our gear. MC was amazing! As I previously stated, I never thought i would have voluntarily gone scuba diving, but with the knowledge and skills that MC taught us I was ready to crush my first ocean dive. He was so patient with us, and taught in a manner that was easy to follow and easy to understand. He really helped me gain that confidence to be able to dive.

In total, over a 3-day period, we completed 4 dives to get our certification, and then we decided to do a deep water dive as well, which MC took us on. Before heading into the water, I had a slight panic attack and MC was so wonderful, and expertly calmed me down until I was ready to go.

All the staff at Blue Marlin Dive are top tier. The were welcoming to us and made us feel like friends right off the bat. Highly recommend this place, even if you’re just interested in doing a discovery dive, you really won’t regret it!

Delicious food. I could recommend any seafood dish. Actually, not only seafood.
Their bbq is extremely good value, with a great salad buffet.
Their Indonesian dishes are also unbelievably tasty, go for the Beef Rendang.

Awesome experience! Anna was an amazing instructor who went over the basic theory and then a pool session before heading out to the dive site. There was a guy who was a little stressed about the whole experience but Anna went the extra mile and literally held his hand the entire dive! Can't say enough good things about this place. If you're interested in Diving Definitely check this place out!

We loved our 2 days diving with Blue Marlin. We completed our Advanced open water and Nitrox courses with Brontie. She was super knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and relaxed. Exactly what you want from a great dive instructor! On top of that the entire team from in shop to the boat made the experience amazing. The guys at Blue Marlin are highly reccomended from us!

I did my AOW course with Blue Marlin in Gilli T, which I think was good for course diving but perhaps not so much for fun diving. At the time the visibility was low but that was because of high swells and storms with the approaching wet season. Anna Blanchon was my instructor and she was excellent. Very thorough, clear in her instructions, safe, approachable and friendly, but also not afraid to be honest if divers are not responding to her. She also helped me arrange to dive in Lombok with the new Blue Marlin crew there, which was a lot more interesting and challenging for me, and overall a better dive experience. The price on the Gillis is quite high for diving, but you'll find all the operators charge the same price. I didn't find the dive sites at Gilli T to be anything particularly special, and having come from a solid few weeks diving in Komodo I thought the conditions of the reef were not great. There is high dive traffic at the more popular sites. Overall, good to do a course here and I was glad I chose Blue Marlin, but the reef health and the cost are the only drawback.

The worst dinner we had in the entire trip. Terrible pizzas with the toppings literally slammed on and coming apart by the time you eat it. The wraps and paninis were dry and tasteless. Staff were totally indifferent and blamed us for eating the food! Chef and staff need significant training. Don't recommend the restaurant, there is much better than this on the island

Excellent food and service. The fish and salad were very fresh. Yesterday we came for fist time and today we repeated. Maybe we will came again tomorrow. Really we are very satisfied with the dishes and prices. The photos are the fish with chips but we have free salad as well which I didn't take photo.

Super friendly staff with lots of knowledge. Each day is also filled with lots of different dive sites so each time feels like a new adventure. Shout out to our dive master Ary who was especially amazing (and patient!)

I took the Open Water certification course at Blue Marlin and it was money well spent. My instructor was Morgan and he was not only knowledgable and personable throughout the 3 days of training, but was also patient with me when I was a mess and forgot most important details multiple times. I have gone on only 5 dives since I finished my course and I feel very competent, thanks to thorough instruction and small class size (2 other students besides myself). Would recommend Blue Marlin for inexperienced divers!

Polite staff, good food and very near to harbour. The rooms were clean and it offers many activities. Good and well trained instructors for diving.

We had quite a bad diving experience here, we were very disappointed with the ethos. I would reccomend avoiding Blue Marlin for 'fun dives'.

I should say that this is the only place we have dived in Indonesia, so I cannot compare to other places on Gili T.

For context (as this review is rather critical and I want to be open), we qualified as advanced divers only a few months ago, and have dived in a few other places aeou d the world. We are not expert or highly experienced divers. We are professional instructors and very experienced in other risk based adventure sports (on land).

When signing up, you are required to sign a complete release of liability, including for negligence in equipment maintenance and guiding. You are taking full responsibility on yourself. In my own opinion, that isn't something professionals do. I feel that a professional takes responsibility for their actions, we all do it wherever work, I do it as an outdoors instructor.but not Blue Marlin. A very subjective feeling.
We signed though, and agreed to their conditions of having total personal responsibility.

It seems standard here when we walked around that dive computers are not included in 'fun dives', you must pay extra (50k - 10% of the dive). This seems ridiculous when you are signing to agree that you are taking personal responsibility. My regulator did not have a depth gauge, so without a computer how could I have taken full responsibility for my own dive safety? In the modern day, a dive computer is an essential bit of kit that should be included.

We arrived on time, having completed paperwork the night before, but our booking had been cancelled. It was an honest mistake which didn't cause an issue, but was avoidable. We were rushed through booking out kit, my wife did not have a chance to check her equipment before it was taken away from behind her without her realising. She was not given the opportunity to take responsibility for her kit.

A briefing was done but with no map, so no orientation, bad for enjoyment and bad for safety.
No briefing was given on how the boat would work. We were just told to get on a boat, didn't know where our kit was, nor that we would be dropping off several other groups first, we just sat there a little confused. Our instructor then put our BCD / reg / tank on us. I refused and insisted on checking it first, but my wife was told that she could not check the valve on her own tank. That was pretty outrageous. Seeing this I obviously went over and checked, and got a very disapproving look from our guide.

The guide rearranged her spare reg, attaching it to a fastener. She explained that she hadn't trained with this so wanted to put the hose in the pouch, to be easily pulled out as she had practiced, he ignored her and clipped it anyway.

The dive itself wasn't managed how I'd have liked, but that is personal preference, just meant that we burned a lot more air than normal.

The guide signalled for a 5m safety stop while we were at 11m, and we were doing a managed ascent to 5m. He then approached me and started adjusting my BCD, I think my waist strap had come loose (still clipped but not tight). It was well intentioned but he could have just pointed it out to me. Instead he fiddled, and must have undone my weight belt as when he let go it dropped 30 metres below. He did go and retrieve it for me after my buddy pointed it out to him, which was good of him, but I had a fairly uncontrolled ascent to the surface.

From the moment of stepping on the ladder out of the water, our guide didn't come near us or say another word to us.

Nothing that we saw was inherently unsafe. If we had been happy to be strapped into a scuba kit, thrown off a boat and fin behind a guide then I imagine we'd have had a safe and enjoyable time, but that isn't what diving is really about, and isn't what their paperwork says.

The people in the office were really cool and friendly, and I imagine the place has a really nice social vibe if you're doing a course. We had a good dinner there.

Sadly I would reccomend avoiding BM

Awesome place with a great dive team. From the dive masters and instructors to the boat crew. They are all professionals! Don't forget to buy them doughnuts every once in a while, they will love you for it.

I did the open water certification and loved it. The staff here is well prepared and made me feel safe. They also organize three dives a day which you can join as fun dives too. The general atmosphere is friendly while also very professional. While there's many diving shops in the island, this one is one of the few that is green and participates in the awareness project.

Did my open water and advanced certificate with these guys back in Apr/May and they were very professional and well organised. They have good boats, decent equipment and a good crew. I also couldn’t have asked for a better instructor, Neil Baxter, who is super laidback but also very professional, from diving with him he clearly enjoys his job and takes pride in it, and everything was very relaxed, composed and also good fun, which made me feel safe and gave me confidence venturing into this new alien world.

Professional and friendly! We had a DSD here and the instructors made us feel really safe and welcome. The pool dive was a great way to get use to the equipment. The instructors were reassuring and knew what they were doing. Saw turtles and a puffa fish! Would love to dive here again

This blue marlin is better than the one in labuan bajo. Love their hospitality, especially mas Adi, my dive master at that time. Hes really nice to us, very caring and accommodating our dive.
Despite the good stuff, not all the staffs know about the price and discount. I dove with blue marlin before and i supposed to get additional discount. At first one of em said I'll get it but the others said either dont know or i won't get it bcs it was 5 months ago.
Another thing is the charge of card usages. It's understandable if they charge foreign card but local card? GPN is there and you shouldn't charge local card anymore.

Joined for a diving introduction class, not expensive, and had the pleasure to be accompanied by diving instructor Nadine. She's really amazing, a very good instructor, very laidback and positive who keeps you calm and helps you a lot to get you more confident about diving and a very sweet woman. After preparations in the pool which went close to perfect we went diving in the sea with a total of 3 persons, which is cool because you have more attention for each other. Somehow unexpectedly I panicked when we got down to 5m and couldn't control my breathing, Nadine helped me to calm down and when I said I wanted to get out she respected that. Afterwards she really tried to help to calm me down, we did a 2nd try on my decision but unfortunately I couldn't get to calm down. She really gave me time to calm down tried to get me confident about it again, which unfortunately didn't work and when I decided that I would get back on the boat she was completely supportive about it. Thanks again and stay happy in that paradise!

If you’re wanting to have an incredible dive experience.carry on walking past Blue Marlin Dive! The diving team (all bar one) are incredibly rude! My partner and I went in to do a fun dive, during our talk with one of the divers I told him I have allergy induced asthma, he advised me I would need a doctors note and that they would not accept a note from a doctor on the island so I had to call my doctors back home in the UK, after a very expensive phone conversation my doctors cleared me to dive as my asthma is only triggered by long haired cats.you don’t find many of them in the ocean! I had to pay £25 + the phone call to get clearance to dive to then be chased down the road and told I would have to see a specialised diving doctor! I made of point of saying I had just paid out doing what they asked and my response was a shoulder shrug!
My partner did his dive and although he saw an abundance of wildlife he said he felt like pay cheque and not a person.
Myself and another were only able to snorkel and as we were getting on the boat one of the female instructors referred to us as ‘loiters’ (because we weren’t putting money in their pockets)
Last but not least the instructor my partner had made a comment about me using a vape. I commented back about him smoking cigarettes.is response. ’do as I say not as I do’ highly patronising!

Overall the service at Blue Marlin Dive was disgusting!

My partner and I are looking to do our open water certification, we certainly won’t be doing there.

Hotel location, rooms and food was great. The staff could have been more courteous but overall we enjoyed the stay there
