Mangsit Surf School Lombok

We joined Mangsit Surf School for a snorkelling trip to Gili Nanggu. To be frank, the experience didn't live up to the positive reviews, particularly in terms of the service.

It was marketed as a private boat tour, but it felt more like a private shuttle boat, shuttling us between islands alongside two other groups.

- There was only one snorkeling spot on a rather crowded beach.
- The designated "guide" frequently disappeared to attend to other customers.
- Contrary to what was mentioned on their website, there was no water or fruit provided on the boat.
- The snorkeling equipment was notably old and worn-out.

On the whole, the staff wasn't very friendly or welcoming.
Considering the price we paid and the advertised promises, we found the overall experience quite disappointing.
Additionally, we took the initiative to provide this feedback directly to the boss, but there was no response or even an acknowledgment of our concerns, let alone an apology.

In addition to our first surfing experience, we also booked two trips through the surf school. Super nice, funny and courteous people!
Everything was a lot of fun and was always very uncomplicated.
Price-performance is more than justified!
Can just be recommended!

My friends who live near the holiday resort strongly recommend this surf shop. Although the price is more expensive than the outdoor training at the beach, it is more professional and will always remind you of inaccurate movements. Neither of us fell into the water once. It’s a very happy experience and I’m still not satisfied. I’m glad to meet Coach Wan!

At the beginning of our 4-day stay in Lombok we took surfing lessons from Wan. We had never stood on a surfboard before, but Wan and his team taught us very well, so we were standing after a short time. Since we got along very well and Wan is a very open-minded person, we also spent time with the team after the surfing lesson. He also organized a tour to the waterfalls and transport to the port. We were able to learn a lot about Lombok and the local culture through Wan and he is fun for everyone.

Learning the basics seemed easy to me thanks to Olic who is very knowledgeable.
It was more than a surfing experience, it was a wonderful human encounter with Wan and his team!

Super fun experience! We first took 2 hours of surfing lessons. After a good 10 minutes we could both stand smoothly and only take waves. Very nice, definitely recommended!
The next day we went on a full day snorkeling trip to the 3 gili islands. Also a super experience ended with feeding a whole school of fish that almost came to eat out of your hand. I recommend everyone to have an unforgettable experience here!

Best surf school in Indonesia.if you ever have the opportunity to come here, I can only highly recommend it! The surf teachers are so warm and helpful and helped me with tours and scooter rental in addition to great surf tips!

Top guys and really good learning waves! Instructor and his son couldn’t do enough for me. We had some bad weather so we paused and resumed when it got better. If you want to try surfing, these are the guys to do it with!

Just spent a week at Qunci villas and used Wan and his team for multiple Gili island snorkeling trips and surf lessons for both adults and kids.

Firstly the surfing - Wan managed to get all 5 kids standing up by the end of the first 2 hour lesson. The kids loved the instructors and they made it super enjoyable for us all. So much so we had 3 more sessions with them!

We also did three trips to the Gilis with these guys. Much better value than the hotel. Local boat tour to all three islands with expert snorkeling guidance to ensure we saw loads of turtle s and fish with time to have lunch and chill out on the Gilis. Boat is a bit rough and ready but great fun!

All in all we 100% recommend taking a island tour/surf lessons with Wan and team. They are honest, friendly guys who go out their way to ensure you have a get experience.

Before even I arrived at Lombok, Wan showed me his kindness and shared with me his insights on the local surf spots. During my stay at senggigi, Wan has been more than a surf guide. He welcomed me to his family and community, showed me the local and authentic Lombok and made my trip the rich experience it was. Shout out to his brother Iqbal for lending me his board, it was my lucky charm!
I highly recommend Wan's school, you can have a fun first session if you're a beginner or you can have a blast at a local unkown surf spot if you're an advanced surfer.

Such a great experience! The instructor was so sweet and so helpful. We started off very shallow then progressed to medium and then I had time to practice on my own. Was able to stand up a few times on my very first day:) Such a kind person & so genuine - he even gave me water and coffee during our break! Highly recommend. Just make sure to use a full body rash guard if it's your first time surfing (he provides some) and be cautious of coral in the water.

Really bad and unsafe experience - While there was a nice beach next to the surfschool were every other student was learning how to surf, the instructor told me and my girlfriend (trying for the first time) that he will take us to another one that was a bit further. To get there, we had to carry the boards for quite some distance as it wasn’t really close by. The worst though is that we had to do it by walking next to the rocks where the waves were crashing. I told him that this wasn’t safe. He said that it’s ok. The waves were crashing us so hard that my girlfriend was pulled in the water falling over the rocks twice and my self once. The waves even pulled the instructor’s board inside the water. While my girlfriend was on the rocks shocked crying, I told the instructor we stop and we get out of the water. However, the guy, while trying to catch his board, as it was in the water, was telling me that it’s going to be fine. I insisted we are going out right away. I puddled out of the water and we went to get our stuff. He didn’t even apologise. Also, in order to not scare the rest of the customers at the surfschool who while waiting for their turn saw my girlfriend shocked with her foot bleeding and were wondering what happened, he starting saying that we didn’t follow his rules. What he said made me totally furious, as there no rules (the guy literally said nothing: P) and even himself struggled with the waves and lost his board. I told him to cut it off, to not even dare taking anyone without experience there and then we left.

Mangsit Surf School was an absolute highlight from my time on Lombok.
I had a chance encounter with Wan on Sengiggi Beach, which promptly resulted in me taking a lesson in surfing foundations. He managed to get me standing up confidently on a board for the first time, after many previously failed attempts in my lifetime.
Following the lesson, we had a lunch of freshly made local dishes and great conversations, and to top it all off Wan then took us on an amazing private snorkelling tour of the Gili Islands.

He is a consummate professional, fantastic teacher, and a great guy. A wealth of surfing knowledge and of everything there is to know about and do on Lombok.

Mangsit surf school has been one of my highlights during my trip through Indonesia. Wan, the surf instructor, took me from never having the confidence to try surfing to being able to stand up on most waves on a hardtop board. He was also kind enough to provide water, lunch & transport to Sengiggi! I highly recommend if you are wanting to improve your surfing ability.

Tolle Surfschule, habe mit Wan an nur einem Tag große Fortschritte gemacht. Er war sehr geduldig und hat die surf session sehr individuell an mich angepasst. Sehr zu empfehlen!
